Auto Path Crumbs is a Drupal 8 module that automatically (ie. no configuration) generates breadcrumbs based on the path alias / path of the current page.
If a portion of the current path is not a valid page then it will be omitted from the breadcrumbs.
This is a first cut. Although it seems to be working well I plan to do some more thorough testing and improve some aspects of the way it works.
Hopefully this work can be useful in the implementation of Drupal 8 versions of Breadcrumbs by path and/or Menu Breadcrumb.
