Default Drupal user registration form is somewhat complicated for older people and children. They usually have troubles with email and even user name.
This module replaces default registration form with simplified one. New users have to enter only real name and optionally a birth year. All other is generated automatically:
- User name is sanitized and transliterated to ASCII character set.
- If enabled, birth year is appended to user name.
- If such user name already exists, a numeric suffix is appended.
- Random password is generated automatically.
Resulting user name and password are then shown as clear text. User can memorize or write them down. Account is activated and logged in immediately.
Email field is in fact optional. Accounts are created with empty email and it can be filled in later.
Warnings
- Of course, absence of email field can break some functionality. Do not enable and use features and modules that strictly require a valid email.
- Immediate user activation also lowers overall security. You may need to create a role for administration approved users and revoke some permissions from generic "Authenticated User" role.
- CAPTCHA or other spam protection module is highly recommended. For popular CAPTCHA module you may need to register a CAPTCHA point manually. Form ID is "simplified_registration_form".
TODO
- Option to fill in corresponding fields in user entity (configurable)
- Automatic CAPTCHA point creation
- Option for automatic email address generation (i.e. when local mail server is integrated with Drupal)
- Option to use phone number
