The module helps to determine geographical location by IP using ipgeobase.ru service. This service provides geolocation information for Russian and Ukrainian based IPs. The database is updated daily. It provides accurate results and correct location names in Russian.
Besides Russia and Ukraine, the geolocation data in the database includes all RIPE blocks (Europe and part of Asia). Those additional blocks contain only country information.
The module provides an API for other Drupal modules. It also provides very simple block for displaying current user geolocation - you can see a demos for D7 here and D6 here. API and block can be used separately - the code is organized into 2 modules and block can be enabled separately from core API if required. Code for displaying a simple block with the IP information can serve as an example of using the API itself.
