The standard RSS plugin for Views creates an RSS icon which attaches to other displays. The icon links to the URL of an RSS feed defined by the plugin. That URL also includes arguments from the display to which it is attached, as well as query strings from any exposed filters in the display to which it is attached.
In practice, however, RSS feeds generated by Views may not actually use the arguments and exposed filter query strings. For example, they are ignored in the standard RSS feed defined by the Calendar module. Including arguments and the query string in those RSS feeds is therefore unnecessary and may in fact lead to suboptimal caching and unnecessary server load.
The Views RSS Simple module therefore enables omitting the query strings from the URL, and provides an additional option to also omit the arguments from the display to which the RSS feed is attached.
This module also provides a simple example of how to create a custom Views style plugin.
