Multi-Criteria Evaluation is a Tool to support the decision-making process in addressing complex governance problems.
In case of complex problems where strategic decisions have to be made by a group of people a multi-criteria decision-making tool (MCDM) supports a rational decision making process.
This module can be used to construct an evaluation on a given problem.
After configuration it will display a rack/matrix with minimum 2 maximum 3 axes together with a set of indicators.
Indicators signals the state/ measures a condition. In the tool indicators can be added to a cell in the matrix to indicate where they play a role. A weight can be added to increase/decrease their role.
In the end the total utility is calculated and the results can be viewed.
Steps to take:
1. List alternatives that will be evaluated. (scenarios axe)
2. List criteria that will be used (issues axe)
3. List methods (tools axe, not mandatory)
4. List indicators
5. List evaluators/stakeholders that will take part in the evaluation process.
The tool was first developed to be used in scientific classrooms at REEDS (International Centre for Research in Ecological Economics, Eco-Innovation and Tool Development for Sustainability)
