As far as I can tell there's no reason anybody would ever want this, but I had a site that I unfortunately deployed on 7.x-alpha6 and it had been sitting there all this time, so I had to wrap my mind around what all happened in the end of alpha2alpha to upgrade it.
This will attempt to update a 7.x alpha site to 7.x-beta1 and perhaps it could get farther, but I'd try beta1 first.
This is a clone of Head to Head which does two things:
1. It adds in a key issue that never got committed (http://drupal.org/node/934548)
2. It pretends that it's at 7.x-alpha8 (as if beta1 were alpha8)
You can use alpha2alpha with it like this:
1. Enable alpha2alpha
2. Check out head2head branch pretend_alpha_8_existed
3. Check out Drupal 7.x-beta1
3. Run update.php
