This module integrates content stored on external databases with the native Drupal entities and bundles.
Some applications:
- Multiple Drupal installations share a common user database, but different databases for content
- A Drupal installation uses an external database for user authentication
- Drupal shares databases with non-Drupal applications
Module development will accomplish:
- Create an implementation of DrupalDefaultEntityController which will provide the missing arguments to the Database API
- Implement a method to add to the entity schema information about which database to use
- Create a UI to manage connections to databases (including the Drupal database)
- Create a UI to manage the table schema descriptions (including the Drupal schemas)
- Create a UI to manage entity and bundle descriptions (including the Drupal entities and bundles)
When finished, it should become an easy process for web developers to add an external database to their Drupal installation, describe the tables in the database, describe how the entities are stored in the tables, and the bundles. Then they should work seamlessly with all existing modules and themes.
