Summary

text_banner is a contributed module which, when activated, displays a permanent, translatable (localizable) header banner, and a separate, permanent localizable footer banner, which are displayed on all pages of a site. This module can be used for many reasons and purposes. The text banner fields can contain valid html5 and be sued as links.

Two related modules are in development to both a) integrate this project with openx (or more likely a new revive-adserver module), and b) a text_banner module with a number of header and footer banner text fields with banner rotation per page-view and/or period of time (configurable). A co-maintainer for those two modules in development is welcome to help further develop this project to meet these two goals, especially the banner rotation goal. Active work is being done to achieve these two goals for Drupal 7 and 8. OK Drupal 8 pledge!

Current Status

The module in its present form is working and is fully multilingual. There are over 50 Drupal 7 sites, many of them responsive, that are currently using this module. Work on a Drupal 8 version has begun, and we will do our best to provide a working Drupal 8 version when Drupal 8 is released. There are no plans to provide a Drupal 6 verion of this module.

Details

Text banner allows you to display two separate text advertising or
informational banners at the extreme top and extreme bottom of a
Drupal site. It is displayed at a fixed position so content is viewed
within these top and bottom banners much like the administrator's
toolbar. It also adds the banners to printed copies of Drupal site
content. The header banner and the footer banner are separate banners,
and they are multilingual; use the multilingual features by activating
them in your multilingual variables. A background color and a text color
must be chosen for the banners, and these colors will apply to both header
and footer banners. These background colors and text colors are customizable.
There are no plans to provide for separate colors for header text banners and footer text banners. A patch to do this is welcome, but we will not work on this. Any such patch should make sure to test how it affects caching and site responsiveness.

This module is working fine with PHP 5.5.17 on Drupal 7.32
< p />
It's a useful module for:

- Running text ads along the extreme top and bottom of all pages
of your Drupal 7 site.

- Internal sites that contain sensitive information, and you want to
make sure that your users are aware of the content's sensitivity.
It would also help if you need that information displayed on the
printed version of the site.

REQUIREMENTS

* No formal prerequisites

INSTALLATION

* Install as usual, see https://www.drupal.org/node/1294804 for information
regarding the installation of sandbox modules.

See http://drupal.org/node/70151 for further installation information.

* Go to Administration » Configuration » User interface » Text banner
and configure the Text banner text and colours.

* Enable multilingual text banners by installing and enabling the i18n module suite,
including variable translation, and then enabling the Text Banner Header Text
and the Text Banner Footer Text variables in the multilingual variables zone at
Administration >> Configuration >> Multilingual Settings >> Variables at:
http://example.com/admin/config/regional/i18n/variable

CONFIGURATION

* Go to Administration » Configuration » Advertising » Text banner
and

- set the banner text (using html to make the text a link), for example:
<a href="http://example.com" target="_new">Try our new product or service!</a> to open the linked URL in a new browser tab, or:
<a href="http://example.com">Try our new product or service!</a> to go to the linked URL;

and either:

- select a predefined background colour, or

- select a new/existing custom colour and define it using a
six-digit hexadecimal value. For example, #000000 for black and
#FFFFFF for white.

* The theme adjusts the following regions in the Drupal page (by CSS
tags):

- #page-wrapper for all content, and

- body.toolbar for the administrator toolbar, and body.overlay to
compensate for adjusting the above #page-wrapper.

If your theme or module does not look right with the Text banner
module, please change the CSS in your theme/module, or in the
"text_banner_screen.css" file in this module.

REFERENCES and CREDITS

This modules' code started with code from the excellent site_banner module:
http://drupal.org/project/site_banner

by maintainer Anthony Joseph (ajosephau - https://drupal.org/user/2543514)

The CSS code used to create the top and bottom banners was based on
the article from Dynamic Drive CSS library:

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/layouts/category/C11

We have modified that project to separate the top and bottom banners, then to
make them fully multilingual, to support text advertisements. We are developing
the text banner project further to provide for rotating top and bottom banners, as
well as revive-adserver integration.
