Element SimpleFader is a module that uses the jQuery FadeIn function on the selected element on page load. I used it for a logo, but it might be interesting for other elements (slideshows, hero images, etc.) as well.
I didn't need a default, but that might be a good idea - though I think that would depend on theme.
