The consumer module is a framework for querying web services and theming the response.
Services and service types are defined via hooks. Comprehensive template suggestions allow a fine level of control over output theming.
Out of the box, the only type of service you can use is http-get but the module has been designed with extensibility in mind.
I developed this for data.gov.uk so external data services could be queried and the results embedded in pages. Currently I have used it with the UK Police API and NHS Choices syndication feeds.
I'm currently in the process of tidying up the module for release onto drupal.org. I intend to package up extension modules for use with Police and NHS services.
