Avenger Webmail is also creating a messenger system to integrate into Drupal for Users that do not have access to a mail server of their own.

This module will act as a private message system between users on the same Drupal site. Does not work between sites at this time. Currently under active development along with Avenger Webmail. Coding backend at this time, please check back for updates.

If you are attempting to verify the user wants to leave the page prior to saving.
A window can be opened on exit of the browserpage (onunload) this will not prevent them from losing data on the page as the page would still be closed.

The better option would be to present the user with an 'Alert' message prior to unload (onbeforeunload).
